Resources for the Math Teacher

Algebra Online Algebra OnlineSM is a free service designed to allow students, parents, and educators throughout the world to communicate.  This includes free private tutoring, live chat, and a message board, among many other features.  Questions and discussions relating to all levels of mathematics (not just Algebra) are welcome. 
Eisenhower National Clearinghouse ENC’s mission is to identify effective curriculum resources, create high-quality professional development materials, and disseminate useful information and products to improve K-12 mathematics and science teaching and learning. 
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics The mission of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is to provide the vision and leadership necessary to ensure a mathematics education of the highest quality for all students.
National Math Trail The National Math Trail is an opportunity for K-12 teachers and students to discover and share the math that exists in their own environments.
California Math Council The California Mathematics Council is a professional organization of educators who are individually and collectively dedicated to the improvement of classroom instruction in mathematics at all levels.
MathCats For students - lots of games and practice, much of it appealing to girls. Section for "Older Cats" gives lesson plans and parent help. 
Color Math Pink Aims to remove the mathematical barriers that prevent girls from discovering a cure for cancer, designing an airplane, heading up a major company, traveling to Saturn as an astronaut, or designing a computer operating system.
Glossary of Mathematical Mistakes A wonderful site full of mistakes made by advertisers, media, politicians and more.
Interactive Algebra This is a well-developed site with tutorials to help improve student skills.
UBUYACAR Students have to determine what annual salary they need to afford the car they wish to purchase.
Mathletics This site deals with figuring batting averages, basketball deals with free throw percentages and the bowling and football links include math skills for practice.
Flatland A story of straight lines, triangles, squares, pentagons and other geometric shapes.
Interactive Math Activities This virtual library has activities dealing with numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability.  Links to NCTM standards are also available.
Statistics Every Writer Should Know This site provides discussions of mean, median, percentage, per capita, standard deviation, data analysis, sample sizes and more.
Tesselation Tutorials Teaching options include discussions of what is a tesselation, how math is involved, as well as historical and geographic conections.
New York Times Educators can find activities dealing with economics, probability, sports, health analysis and other topics.
PBS Teacherline PBS, in partnership with NCTM, ISTE and public television stations around the country, has developed a comprehensive professional development learning environment funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education
Tulare County School Libraries  This site, created by George Pilling, has links to local education and reference sites.  A great site to use if doing research.
Dr. Lesley Farmer Today's educators and K-12 students need to be information literate: to be able to locate, evaluate, use and share information. This web page created by a California State University librarian notes several specific reasons for students to be information literate.

The Canadian Mathematical Society This site includes a number of resources such as a cool math site of the week and a link to mathematician John Allen Paulos' columns on ABC news.
